The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) oversees the multiple methods of transportation which are available in the state. These include:

Air – Pennsylvania has 121 public-use airports and 230 private-use airports. Main airports include Philadelphia International Airport, Pittsburgh International Airport and Harrisburg International Airport.

Rail – The rail system is regional and works to connect nearby towns to cities – the three regional rail service providers include SEPTA (covering southeast Pennsylvania), PAAC (covering western Pennsylvania) and PATCO (a line connecting Philadelphia to Camden, New Jersey). Amtrak also provides a Keystone service which runs between Harrisburg and New York City.

Road – Pennsylvania has the fifth largest highway system in the US and a foreign driver’s licence is valid for the first year of your stay. Private-hire vehicles such as taxis, Uber and Lyft are also commonly used. The state has two main bus providers – Fullington Auto Bus Co. and Greyhound Bus.
