Boulder is a city in Boulder County, Colorado. It lies 1,655 metres above sea level and sits close to the Rocky Mountains. It’s located roughly 25 miles from Denver. The city has a population of over 97,000 and a total surface area of approximately 25.85 square miles. The city has a temperate climate, with sunny weather throughout the year. Boulder’s earliest settlers arrived to the area in 1858. However, Boulder wasn’t incorporated as a city until 1871. Originally part of Nebraska Territory, Boulder was a supply hub for miners visiting the Rocky Mountains. These miners are thought to be amongst Boulder’s earliest business travel professionals. A few years later, a new railroad service arrived in the city which helped connect Boulder to nearby Denver. In 1877, The University of Colorado opened and helped pave the way for a new student population in the city. By 1880, Boulder’s population had risen well beyond the 3,000 mark, anchored by better transport links and an improvement in the city’s living conditions.

The early 20th century is marked by several key legislative changes in Boulder including the adoption of an anti-saloon ordinance and the roll-out of Statewide prohibition. Alongside this, Boulder began to expand commercially with the development of new neighbourhoods and new housing, including corporate housing. Today, Boulder is a buzzing university city offering great art, wellbeing and quality of life.
