Salisbury is situated in the county of Wiltshire. The town has the only cathedral city in the county and there has been a settlement on the site since prehistoric times. The first cathedral was erected in the 11thcentury but the one that stands today was completed in the 13thcentury.
The current population sits just above 40,000, making the town one of the smallest cathedral cities in the UK. It is just 8 miles from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Stonehenge. This brings a great deal of tourism into the town and its economy benefits greatly. Salisbury was granted a license to hold fairs and markets in the 1200s and these are still regularly held on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
The city is serviced by Wilts and Dorset buses as well as a central train station, providing access to nearby cities including Southampton, Bournemouth and Bath. The majority of the serviced apartments Salisbury has to offer are near transport links of some kind.
