Situated in south-west London besides the River Thames, Richmond is an idyllic area with beautiful outdoor spaces and protected views of the river. Unlike other areas of London, Richmond features predominantly low rise buildings and a suburban and leisure focus, with ample historical architecture throughout its streets. Richmond is often used as a filming location, with Richmond Park proving to be especially popular. Scenes for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows were filmed in the park, as were scenes from the Disney musical, Into the Woods. Richmond Theatre has been used as a backdrop to many major films, such as The Krays, Bedazzled, Bugsy Malone, The Hours and Finding Neverland. The village green area, with its Georgian architecture, is often used in period dramas. Several television shows have been filmed in the area, including Downton Abbey and Agatha Christie’s Poirot.
