Inverness, otherwise known as "the city in the Highlands", is a thriving city with a transport network providing services to all parts of the Highlands as well as other areas within the UK.
Today, Inverness is a bustling, modern city with an excellent shopping experience. Its busy streets are usually a mix of both residents and visitors, especially in the summer months. In recent years there has been an extension to the Eastgate Centre, which provides many high street names, reflecting the commercial importance within the city. Meanwhile the refurbished Victorian Arcade, which is home to smaller businesses, reminds visitors of the variety of shopping available within the city.
Inverness also offers a range of pubs, restaurants and late-night venues. Scotland’s longest running show, Scottish Showtime, is also held in the city with a performance of traditional dance and music. The Eden Court Theatre and Cinema is another important cultural centre with a range of events suiting all tastes. One of the city’s most popular performances is the music and martial spectacle of the Inverness Tattoo.
Inverness is an attractive city and was previously a Britain in Bloom award winner with its many parks and tropical gardens under glass in the Bught Floral Hall. Nearby are the attractive walks by the Ness islands on the river.
