Hove traces its origins back to pre-Roman times. There is evidence of settlement there as early as 1200 BC, with the discovery of ancient artefacts which nowadays find a home in the Hove Museum and Art Gallery. As the town grew, so too did its provision of accommodation including serviced apartments.
Throughout the Middle Ages, Hove was regarded as a ruinous village featuring a single street and a church. However, in the Victoria period, things started to change. The town’s population rose, and, with that, so too did its business travel activity.
At this point in time, Hove was known for its brickfields which were later replaced by large Regency houses boasting riding schools and theatres. These elegant houses were regarded as luxury accommodation and set the precedent for future serviced apartments that followed.
It was during the 19th century that the Brighton General Gas Light Company was formed and paved the way for coal production in Hove. That industrial site has since been made into a residential area providing all manner of accommodation.
As time has gone on, new estates have emerged in Hove housing Victorian villas and mews streets. The vast majority of its luxury avenues were developed between the 1870s and 1880s and still stand today. A number of these properties have been updated to include a provision of serviced apartments.
Hove has a developed transport system consisting of buses and trains. Its buses run all over the town and form part of a comprehensive bus monitoring system.
