Esher is a town in the south east county of Surrey. Bordered by four wooded commons and the River Mole, Esher lies only 14 miles south east of Charing Cross; its main train station has quick, direct services to Waterloo, making it popular with commuters.
The town has been affluent throughout its history. Claremont Gardens has a long history of royal connections: in the 16th century, the area was one of Henry VIII’s designated hunting grounds, while the house in the grounds has accommodated Princess Charlotte, the only child of George VI, Queen Victoria and Louis Philippe, the last king of France.
Esher’s Sandown racecourse is a popular venue which holds not just races but concerts, corporate lunches and Christmas parties. The town also has numerous bars, restaurants, pubs and a cinema.
