Weather
The climate in Zurich is particularly warm and temperate, although there is a prominent amount of rainfall throughout the year, including January which tends to be the driest month of the year. The best time to visit the city is typically June and August when temperatures settle, however the hospitable climate can cause flight prices to rise, making it an expensive season to visit.
Culture and customs
Although Zurich is the most populated city in Switzerland, Bern is infact the capital city and home to the Swiss parliament.
Littering
The Swiss city is particularly immaculate and this is due to Zurich’s policy on littering. The city is deemed so clean that it’s quite common for locals or travellers to fill their water bottle with water from Lake Zurich or one of the city’s fountains.
Currency
Switzerland differs to other European countries, in that it doesn’t use the euro for currency exclusively. Whilst euros are accepted as payment, change will be given in francs and Swiss francs is the most common currency in Zurich.
Language
Although Switzerland as a city has four official languages (German, French, Italian and Romansh) the majority of residents in Zurich tend to speak German with small amounts of French dialect. It is recommended to come acquainted with a German phrasebook or dictionary just in case.
Tipping
Switzerland doesn’t require visitors to tip as it is already incorporated in the meal and service price. There may be exceptional services however, and it can be customary to add a small tip by rounding up to the nearest 10 francs.
