Katowice is a city Poland with a population of more than 290,000. Originally a village, it’s played host to numerous artists, merchants and craftsman throughout history, and been transformed through industrialisation which has turned its farms and mills into mines, steelworks and foundries.

These days, Katowice is a key hub for culture, industry and business, home to various skyscrapers and office buildings. It has a low overall unemployment rate, and plays hosts to numerous trade fairs throughout the year.

Its tourist attractions range from Market Square to the historic settlement, Nikiszowiec. Popular sites worth seeing include the Cathedral of Christ the King, St. Mary’s Church and Goldstein Palace. If music is your thing, check out the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, and for a taste of local history, visit the Silesian Museum.

Katowice has a reliable public transportation system that consists of trams, buses and regional rail. Its many roads connect to other European countries like Germany, Belgium and France, and provide easy access to the city’s local airport, Katowice International.
