Muntinlupa is a highly-urbanized city in the Philippines. Part of the National Capital Region, it shares a border with Paranaque, and boasts the largest lake in the country. It has a population of over 500,000 and is home to some of the country’s wealthiest residents. The city has a tropical maritime climate, which consists of both dry and wet seasons. The main language spoken is Tagalog.

The history of Muntinlupa is thought to date back to the 16th century, with the arrival of Portuguese navigator, Ferdinand Magellan on Filipino soil. From the very beginning, the city has been engaged in the production of agricultural crops like mango, corn and palay, as well as livestock and poultry.

Since World War II, Muntinlupa has undergone considerable expansion. New factories, homes and buildings have been built, and various development projects have also taken place. Once named the most competitive city in the Philippines, Muntinlupa boasts a large number of business establishments and commercial real estate projects, as well as shopping centres and office towers.  Alabang is Mutinlupa’s main business district, and is home to many of the city’s tallest structures.

Notable landmarks in Muntinlupa include the Japanese Cemetery and Saint Joseph Church. For shopping, visit to the Festival Alabang shopping mall, and if films are your thing, head to the Commerce Center Cinema.

Muntinlupa can be assessed by various forms of transport. It has many bus stops and is served by the Philippines National Railways, which has three stations alone in the city. Tricycles and pedicabs are a good way to get around Muntinlupa; the same goes for jeepneys. The closest airport to Muntinlupa is Ninoy Aquino International Airport, which lies nine miles away, and can be reached via the South Super Highway.
