Monaco is the second smallest country in the world and is located in South West Europe. It is surrounded on three sides by France. Its coast lies on the Mediterranean Sea.
According to legend Hercules passed through the city and turned away the previous gods, the temple of Hercules Monoikos was erected in his honour and hence the name Monaco was born.
Monaco has been ruled by the House of Grimaldi since 1297 when Francesco Grimaldi dressed up as a Franciscan monk and captured the city. It’s most famous member of the Royal Family was Grace Kelly who married Prince Rainier 3rdin 1956, the wedding between the two attracted television audiences in excess of 30 million people.
It is well documented that Monaco is one of the few ‘tax havens’ and therefore attracts many extremely wealthy citizens. This coupled with the many casinos and the annual Monaco grand prix mean that Monaco is famed as a luxurious playground for the rich and famous.
