Beirut is the capital city and centre of government in Lebanon. Beirut has a Mediterranean climate with temperatures rarely falling below 20 degrees.

Tourism is a large aspect of the economy in Beirut, and the whole country’s economy is located here in the capital.

Since 1994 the city has undergone an extensive reconstruction plan, improving the landscape and ensuring the city is able to grow its economy. The Beirut Central District is the centre of the city and the location of many of Lebanon’s shops and restaurants. The traditional Souks, often a tourist hot spot, are located in the medieval market within the central district and are considered landmarks of the city.

Buses are the most frequently used mode of public transport in Beirut; these enable the city to be connected to the rest of Lebanon and Syria. Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport is the main airport serving the city. The airport operates flights to London as well as a number of European destinations such as Paris. The Port of Beirut is also a large transportation depot and provides frequent ferries to and from Cyprus.
