Yokohama is Japan's second largest city by population, after Tokyo. It’s located on Tokyo Bay, and forms part of the Kanto Region.
It has a population of roughly 3.7 million people, as is regarded as a major port, along with Hakata, Osaka, Kobe, Nagoya and Chiba. Starting out as a small fishing village, the city is now a key hub, home to manufacturing, software and financial companies.
It has a total of 18 wards including Aoba-Ku, Midori-ku and Isogo-ku. The closest airport to Yokohama is Tokyo Haneda Airport, which is 15 miles from the city centre.
Yokohama is served by the Tokaido Shinkansen – a high speed train service which stops at Shin-Yokohama station. Yokohama Station is another major train station and sees as many as two million passengers daily.
