Nagoya’s climate varies greatly throughout the year. Like many Japanese cities, it is known for incredibly hot and humid summers, so if you need to visit during the summer, opt for accommodation with air conditioning.
There are fewer trains and subway stations in Nagoya than in there are in Tokyo, but most locations can be easily reached by car. Taxis are therefore often a more viable option than public transport and if shared by two people they can be as cheap as the subway.
When it comes to food, locals love miso, a sauce made from fermented soybeans and grain. Many visitors recommend misokatsu, fried pork cutlet with a rich red miso sauce.
There is plenty to see and do in Nagoya including Nagoya Castle, a famous landmark well known for the two golden carp that lay on its roof. The castle was once home to Oda Nobunaga, one of Japan’s famous warlords. It is also worth taking a ride on the gold and white sightseeing bus, Me-Guru, which passes many of the city’s main attractions.
