Bonn is situated south of Germany’s largest metropolitan area, Rhine-Ruhr, and has a population of around 328,000. Bonn’s economy is focused around the private sector and is home to the headquarters of T-Mobile and Haribo. The closest airport to the city is Cologne Bonn Airport, which provides international flights to other major cities as well as domestic flights throughout Germany.
The city centre itself is not that big, so it is fairly easy to get around on foot. However, if you are venturing slightly out of the centre, Bonn also has an extensive bus, tram and underground system. There are ticket offices at major stations offering single and multiple tickets, 24 hour tickets and weekly passes.
If you are on business in Bonn and have some spare time there is plenty to do in the city, including a number of museums such as Beethoven’s House and Doppelkirche Schwarzrheindorf – a ‘double’ church with beautiful architecture. It is also worth visiting Poppelsdorf Palace, as well as one of the many restaurants, cafés and bars that Bonn has to offer.
