Cannes is located in the French Riviera and is a popular tourist destination due to its close proximity to the Maritime Alps. The city is served by Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, which sees around 10 million passengers annually and provides connections to locations including London, New York and Edinburgh. Transportation to other French cities is provided by the TGV rail services and an ideal bus network serves the city itself.
The Promenade de la Croisette is a popular waterfront destination in Cannes and is home to a selection of beaches, restaurants and shops. Other popular sites within the city consist of the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire (a museum housing prehistoric and modern artefacts), the Espace Miramar Theatre and Lord Brougham’s Italianate Eléanore Louise, which is one of Cannes many grand villas. The famous annual Cannes Film Festival is also held in the city, previewing new films from a range of genres.
