Suzhou is located on the far east coast of China, an hour and 30-minute drive from Shanghai. The city is rich in natural and ancient beauty, featuring stunning stone bridges, pagodas and intrinsically designed gardens. The city has a long history, seen in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and on the shores of Lake Taihu in the province of Jiangsu. Suzhou is also known for its ties to the Chinese silk industry and is an important centre for the industry. Suzhou has assumed this role since the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and continues to hold its salient position today.

Suzhou is the home of the busiest train station in China and is located along the Shanghai Nanjing corridor. The fastest trains take just 25 minutes to get to Shanghai, the nearest international airport is Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, operating flights to most major cities in the world.
