Guangzhou is a port city located on the Pearl River with a population of about 10 million. At first sight, Guangzhou is a developed city full of high-rise buildings, overpasses, and infrastructure. Tourists are not unusual in the city unlike other traditional Chinese cities because Gaungzhou is the entry point for nearby countries in Indonesia. A great deal of tradition and heritage can still be found in the small neighbourhoods and back streets away from the city centre.

There are 10 districts in Gaungzhou, the 3 most central and important ones are Liwan, where Xiguan Old Houses and Shangxiajiu shopping districts are located, Yuexiu, the political centre and Haizhu. Haizhu has a business focus along with real estate and trading, popular sites here include the Canton Fair Pazhou Exhibition Center and the Pearl River Harbour Walk along the river.

Trains to Gaungzhou from Hong Kong cover the 180km in 90 minutes. There are also frequent ferry services from Nasha Ferry Terminal to Hong Kong. Boats to other mainland cities can be caught at the Dashatou Pier. New Nansha Pier, some way from the city centre, has 6 lines daily traveling between Hong Kong and Guangzhou, taking 75 minutes.
