Manchester is a city on the brink of change. As one of the fastest growing cities in Europe, it’s expanding at a rate not seen since the Industrial Revolution, and has some truly remarkable developments in the pipeline.

With more than 11,000 new residential units on the way and over 40 projects under construction, Manchester is transforming as we speak, and may look very different in the next 20 years.

St Michael’s

St Michael’s is an upcoming dual-purpose building combining leisure facilities, accommodation and a rooftop garden. It’s backed by former footballers, Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs, and forms part of a decade long campaign to regenerate Manchester’s city centre. The £200 million development is located just off Deansgate on Jackson’s Row and is projected to bring some 1,500 jobs to the local economy.

Angel Meadow

This forthcoming residential development is set across four buildings and will boast more than 750 new homes. It’s situated in Manchester’s NOMA neighbourhood and will feature a 40 storey high building containing various winter gardens. The ambition of the project is to provide a new residential space on the fringes of Angel Park which will build on Manchester’s skyline whilst offering improved access to the city.

Church Wharf

The much anticipated Church Wharf development is a scheme in Greater Manchester’s Bolton area which will partly serve to meet a need for new office space in the town. The project has ambitious plans to bring a new neighbourhood to the town and increase housing supply through the provision temporary accommodation. It will offer a local mix of retail and leisure facilities, along with a new road that will bring down congestion in the area.

The Factory

The Factory is an innovative new arts centre which is set to take the city by storm. Due 2019, the arts centre is part of an ongoing development in Manchester’s St John’s Neighbourhood – located on the former Granada Studios site – and will replace the existing Starlight Theatre. The all-encompassing creative space will hold roughly 7,000 people and play host to concerts and art exhibitions as well as immersive theatre.

SACO Whitworth Locke

Whitworth Locke is a stunning new serviced apartment building located in Manchester’s civic quarter. Originally a cotton mill, the property dates back to the 19th century and combines approximately 160 studios and suites. With apartments, leisure facilities and co-working spaces all under one roof, Whitworth Locke is as quirky as it is accommodating and offers more than just a place to stay.

Church Street by Supercity

Supercity’s new Church Street property enjoys a buzzy home on the edge of Manchester’s Northern Quarter, close to restaurants, bars and indie shops. Its modern one and two bedroom suites are the perfect blend of serviced accommodation and boutique hotel living, with separate areas for eating, working and sleeping. A number of the apartments also feature private balconies.

Staybridge Suites Manchester

September 2018 saw the launch of new 19-storey Cycas property development boasting multiple apartments, suites and social spaces. Staybridge Suites occupies the upper seven floors of the building, and offers access to a gym and communal terrace overlooking the city. The operator also hosts various “social evenings” on-site, which invite guests to mingle over drinks and nibbles.

Deansgate Square

Dubbed “anything but the ordinary”, Deansgate Square is an upcoming £350 million cluster development, made up of four skyscrapers which will collectively deliver more 1,500 residents apartments. The four towers will range from 40 storeys to 67 storeys, and feature top-of-the-range amenities including tennis courts and spa facilities. Instantly recognisable from central Manchester, Deansgate Square will set the standard for this new district, and offer 6000 new homes.

Staycity Deansgate

Dublin-based aparthotel operator, Staycity Group, has a brand new property on the way in Manchester, which will be housed inside a 21-storey tower. The 310 room aparthotel is Staycity’s fourth and has been masterminded by architecture firm, SimpsonHaugh and Partners. At just a stone’s throw away from Beetham Tower and the Deansgate Tavern, it will serve as a popular destination for business and leisure travellers alike.
