Jogging is an excellent way to keep fit. It’s safe, simple, easy to get into, and can be done just about anywhere. Not only does it work the entire body, but it’s also very sociable. What separates it from other forms of exercise is the fact that it’s free and suitable for people of all fitness levels. If you like to keep fit while on a business trip staying in a serviced apartments in London jogging could be the perfect option for you to exercise and explore the city.

As a relatively flat city, London is perfect for jogging. Its many bridges, parks, woods and canals offer plenty of opportunity for exploration on foot, provided you know the right routes, that is. 

Here are 10 of the best jogging trails in London:

Along the River Thames

Distance: 3.75 miles

Estimated moving time: 40 minutes (approx)

This route is great those in central London, and can easily be covered off in a lunch break. From Waterloo, make your way along the South Bank until you reach the Tate Modern. Next, cross over Millennium Bridge and jog back along the river to Westminster Bridge. It really is as simple as that. John Clarke from Strava follows a similar route that can be found here.

"Escape the City" Thames Run

Distance: 12.38 miles

Estimated moving time: 2 hours (approx)

If you’ve time, this 13 mile course is well worth checking out, and features lots of small, pretty green spots in London. Begin at Battersea Park and head west along the Thames. En-route you’ll pass Kew Gardens, and eventually meet Richmond at the curve of the river. There you’ll find lots of great pubs to enjoy a well-earned pint in.

Richmond Park

As London’s largest park, Richmond Park is a must visit jogging spot. It covers some 955 hectares, combining woods, fields and nature reserves. Our favourite circuit is the Tasmin Trail which takes you all the way around the park and connects to various different entrances. As Richard Bray on Strava points out, “Richmond Park [is a] huge open space close to the city which is amazing for cycling and running.”

Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill

Distance: 2.58 miles

Estimated moving time: 25 minutes (approx)

Sticking on the park theme, you can do a similarly nice jog in Regents Park. Head west on foot around the park from the York Bridge entrance until you reach Ormonde Terrace. Next, turn off from Ormonde terrace and do a quick lap of Primose Hill. Not only can this jog be done in less than an hour, but the views from Primrose Hill are fantastic. Total distance covered: 2.58 miles.

Three-Parks Run

Those based in or close to the City of Westminster can enjoy a brisk tour of three of London’s best parks: Hyde Park, Green Park and St. James Park. Begin your journey at the north side of Kensington Gardens, close to Lancaster Gate tube station. Next, head west, and then turn back east in a circle along the peripheries of Hyde Park, Green Park and St. James’s Park. Eventually, you’ll finish up back at Lancaster Gate.

East London Canal Run

If you’ve never jogged the length of Regents Canal, then you’re in for a treat. From Angel tube station, head east along the canal towards Limehouse Basin. Take the Regent’s Cut and continue past Olympic Park and the Hackney Marshes until you arrive back at your starting point. The route is traffic free and full of beautiful canal boats, so there’ll be plenty for you to see en-route. This run is best enjoyed on the weekend, preferably first thing in morning.

Canary Wharf loop

There’s a quick and easy run you can do that goes from the corner of Canada Square Park, to the Park Pavillion. Jog along N Colonnade, past Adams Place Bridge until you Cabot Square. Take a left onto Cabot Square, followed by a sharp right, and then continue in a circle along Mackenzie Walk. Next, cut inside Chancellor Passage, past the Reuters Building, and then head right back to Canada Square Park.

Victoria Park

Distance: 4.88 miles

Victoria Park is situated between Stratford and Hackney, and is a great jogging spot for anyone living or working in East London. Strava recommends a lap around the park, followed by a run down the Regent’s Canal and back again. The route begins at the Crown Gate entrance to Victoria Park and takes you through Little Venice: a cosy, tree-lined neighbourhood, just north of Paddington. Finish your run with a drink at Pavillion Café.

Bushy Park

Bushy Park is a vast expanse of ponds, trees and grassland that borders Teddington and Hampton. Families can regularly be found walking through it, but you can always up the ante with a gentle run. Scale down your run to a 3.1 mile jog to and from the park’s beautiful Diana Fountain, along Chestnut Avenue and Sandy Lane. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and is fantastic on a sunny day.

Embankment

Gabriella Griffith, in her article ‘Top 5 prettiest lunchtime jogs and walks in London’ recommends a run along Embankment, starting in Westminster and finishing at Blackfriars Bridge. The route is approximately 1.3 miles and takes you past some of London’s top attractions. Highlights include the London Eye, Ministry of Defence Building and Somerset House.
