The UK blog awards 2014
21st May 2014

A couple of weeks ago Chris Gee and I attended the UK Blog Awards 2014 that was held at The Grange Hotel, St Pauls. Although we do look like a couple of young pretenders from Spandau Ballet, we sometimes found it hard on the night explaining to people that we weren’t the people who were up for the Young Persons 18-25 (Organisation) award.

We were in attendance, as Martha Hannis couldn’t make it due to family commitments. Gemma Pearson and Becki Cross were the organisers behind the blog awards and the event – who also announced that they’d be back next year for the same again.

The night went without a hitch and we were extremely impressed with how well organised everything was. Over 300 people including bloggers, sponsors and the original Stig from Top Gear attended the awards ceremony, with the whole night a resounding success. We were plied with ample amounts of champagne on reception, whilst waiters served food (chicken kebabs, king prawn skewers, onion bahjis) to hundreds of guests that socialised in the main room. The awards ceremony lasted for a couple of hours before cocktails and more socialising, with a band playing later in the night.

These two young women showed a lot of guts to enter the awards world and the turnout was testament to all of their hard work. Sponsors flocked to each and every one of their advertising streams and the future looks bright for potential investment. Although our blog didn’t win, the calibre of writer on display was refreshing to see, as there was a huge variety of categories producing a platform for bloggers all over the UK. This was a great way for businesses to showcase their marketing talent and to illustrate why blogging is such an important tool – let’s hope 2015 is just as successful. Word on the grapevine is there’ll be a blogging conference sandwiched between nominations and the awards next year so look out for that.
