With over 200 acres of open greenery, Sefton Park hosts a variety of route options and is a firm favourite for a lunch break among locals. Runners can opt for an efficient, three kilometre flat loop around the lake, or complete five kilometres circling the sights of the picturesque park, such as the Shaftesbury fountain and Eros statue. The iconic Victorian Palm House also serves as the perfect spot to stop for a post-jog coffee.

Rimrose Valley Country Park (2.5 kilometres)

The Leeds and Liverpool canal is the longest canal in Britain to be built as a single waterway

The varied terrain of the Rimrose Valley Country Park provides a variety of distance options for a scenic park jog; those that are keen can also continue along the canal for many miles. Joggers can choose from a two and a half kilometre stretch through the centre of the park or graze the edge of the Leeds to Liverpool canal for several kilometres. Close to Waterloo station, this route can be accessed easily from the city centre for a quick breath of fresh air. Crosby Beach is also a nearby addition to the southern section of this route if a blend of scenery is favourable.

Crosby Beach Coastal Park (up to 12 kilometres)

Visitors can walk along Crosby beach and enjoy the sights of the sea, the Wirral and North Wales

The ease of access to Crosby Beach makes this route a popular choice with locals, as well as being a generally fantastic location. Situated just six miles north of Liverpool city centre, joggers can circle Marine Lake before heading along the coastal promenade of the seafront. While the beach itself can be jogged upon, the path to Blundellsands Key Park is paved. This jogging route in Liverpool is particularly picturesque on a sunny day, especially if rewarded with a celebratory ice cream.

Royal Albert Dock (9 kilometres)

Albert Dock
The heart of Liverpool's historic waterfront, Albert Dock

This iconic route holds a multitude of options for every type of jogger; from the flat waterfront promenade, to the light incline that features many of the city’s historic statues and sites. Those with limited time to spare can opt for the highlights, passing the iconic Beatles Statue, the Museum of Liverpool and the Liverpool Mountain Sculpture. With plenty of options to extend, this Royal Albert Dock route can also incorporate the Three Graces building, the Kings Parade and Princes Dock. Additionally, this route benefits from the variety of cafes, restaurants and pubs that joggers will pass by, contributing towards Liverpool’s cosmopolitan buzz - all of which makes it a fantastic place to stay.

The Wirral Peninsula (35 mile circuit)

Wirral, UK
The peninsula's Leasowe Lighthouse, built in 1763, is the oldest brick lighthouse in the U.K and the first to have a female lighthouse keeper

A short commute from Liverpool city centre, the Wirral Circular Trail is a 35-mile circuit located between the River Mersey and River Dee on the Wirral peninsular. When split into sections, this route can be tackled in a variety of ways and is practically six for the price of one. One way to begin is with the magazine promenade – a four kilometre paved walkway that bends around the waterfront, heading north towards Marine Lake.

For something briefer, Marine Lake itself hosts a two and a half kilometre circuit around the West Kirby waterfront. As a route featuring water on both sides, this jog provides secluded escapism for those needing a moment away from the bustling centre.

Lastly, the old railway track of the Wirral Way consists of a gravel path that spans 20 kilometres, once forming the initial circuit of the peninsula. This path heads along the coast before directing inland towards Hooton Train Station, providing commuters with the freedom to choose their own distance.
