19th November 2021

Massachusetts has a wealth of fantastic food on offer. Bursting at the seams with a kaleidoscope of flavours, the Greater Boston area is home to some of the most decadent culinary classics. A city that takes great pride in its history, Boston pays homage to and respects quintessential dishes while simultaneously striding beyond the boundaries. Offering everything from New England icons to refined French dishes, restaurants in Boston have an abundance of mouth-watering menus on offer and an array of incredible venues that serve as the perfect environment for a culinary journey. Join us in exploring the best restaurants in Boston as we showcase what this world-class city has to offer.

Neptune

Neptune’s inventive adaptations of lesser-known New England traditions, while exquisitely executing the classics, makes it a frontrunner for a traditional Boston dining experience. The combination of quality and creativity is something to behold, hailed as the place to sample requisite regional essentials – raw oysters, fried clams and lobster rolls – Neptune is ideal for business travellers searching for a taste of the city. There is also something to be said for the opinion of local as crowds spill outside, queuing along the pavement - a blend of new and familiar faces alike.

A tiny 42-seat bistro, this Boston restaurant is always worth the wait, its doors having opened in 2004 and featuring a nostalgic yet fresh décor. While the Bostonian classics often reign supreme, diners would be wise to order a selection from the menu as the lesser-known dishes here can really serve up a storm.

No.9 Park

An elegant and quintessentially Bostonian spot, No.9 Park resides in a suave townhouse on the historic Beacon Hill and provides an intimate setting for a decadent dining experience.  The menu features an artful blend of French and Italian cuisine accompanied by a thoughtfully curated James Beard Award winning wine list. Situated just a stone’s throw from Massachusetts State House and across the street from Boston Common, this location is Boston at its best. The space features shimmering chandeliers and dark wood flooring that radiates a timeless sophistication; while the menu selection may have a European flare, the talent behind the dishes is authentically Bostonian.

Union Oyster Bar

The oldest continuously operating restaurant in Boston and the entire country, Union Oyster House (established in 1826) serves old-time Yankee classics such as New England clam chowder and oyster crackers. Seafood has been the main attraction here for a number of years, drawing a considerable local crowd for its butterfly shrimp and fresh oysters.

Boston’s ‘Beantown’ nickname is showcased here in full effect, with traditional Boston baked beans a staple of the menu at one of the few remaining locations to serve this culinary classic. A traditional, slow-cooked recipe that has been omitted from many menus in favour of more artisanal options, only a handful of iconic restaurants still serve this sweet side dish. While the competition in the area is fierce and many eateries contribute stellar Bostonian classics, Union Oyster House is the place to sample a piece of Boston history.

Parker’s Restaurant

The home of the famous Boston cream pie. Founded by Harvey D. Parker in 1855, the Omni is the oldest continuously operating hotel in the USA and has built a prominent culinary legacy. The Omni Parker House’s restaurant is steeped in history, believed to be the location where John F. Kennedy proposed to Jackie in the early 1960s, where Ho Chi Minh worked as a baker and where Malcolm X worked behind the scenes as a busboy. With crystal chandeliers and ornate woodwork, the setting at Parker’s is grand yet classic and an ideal Boston restaurant for business dining.

Menton

For business travellers with a deal to close, Menton is the place to be. Regarded as the jewel in the crown of iconic Boston restaurateur Barbara Lynch’s empire, this space is worthy of such a title. Offering one of the best dining experiences in the city, Menton is exuberant and luxurious. Raw concrete walls contrast with the French provincial furniture and create an environment that is ornate yet modern and welcoming.

Since opening in 2010, Menton has received numerous accolades, unsurprising when considering that the restaurant was founded by the only female in the United States to hold the distinguished title of Grand Chef Relais & Châteaux. With beautifully executed, refined French cuisine in a luxurious, warm setting, Menton boasts some of Boston’s best.

Time Out Market

As variety is the spice of life, restaurants in Boston come together at Time Out Market and offer something for everyone. Housed in an adapted 1920s building, Boston’s first culinary hub boasts 15 kiosks and two full-service bars plus an abundance of indoor and outdoor seating – catering to the needs of any diner who visits. Time Out features some of Boston’s most celebrated chefs who serve hearty favourites alongside classic Bostonian selections. Lobster rolls and wagyu roast beef sandwiches are bona fide Bostonian favourites and an essential to try from local food-world royalty at Time Out.
