We wanted to be able to offer our clients a solution to measure their carbon footprint, so we are very excited to officially launch the SilverDoor Carbon Calculator.

As an agent with a supply chain of more than 2,500 property operators, we understand our responsibility to lead the way towards a sustainable future for the serviced apartment sector. Created in response to the lack of data on the environmental performance of serviced accommodation and our unique access to large amounts of property data, our Carbon Calculator aims to give bookers the ability to compare emissions in the same way they can location, rates and facilities.

| Helping businesses set, monitor and achieve business travel emissions reductions targets
Serviced apartments offer a wide range of features, amenities and facilities, which is what makes them so well suited to the requirements of the modern business traveller and corporate assignee. It is exactly this diversity of product that has previously made it difficult to measure and benchmark the sustainability of serviced apartments.
We’ve added 18 new datapoints into our content management system where operators can input building-specific data on a number of fields including energy, renewables, laundry and air conditioning.
The SilverDoor Carbon Calculator algorithm uses this information to produce a calculated estimate of the carbon emissions produced per night of stay. Where data is available, calculations are benchmarked against Cornell University’s Hotel Sustainability Benchmarking Index to provide a comparison with a typical hotel stay in the same destination.
Final figures are now presented alongside the percentage difference to an equivalent Cornell hotel industry average (where available) on property pages and in search results on our website and online booking tool.

| This is just the beginning for the SilverDoor Carbon Calculator tool
The first phase of the tool will focus on collecting only the most critical information needed to estimate emissions. As we learn more, and property data becomes easier for our operators to collect, the tool will allow bookers to understand the sustainability of their SilverDoor apartment compared to an equivalent hotel.
The aim of The SilverDoor Carbon Calculator is to empower clients and bookers who wish to understand the environmental impact of the accommodation they select. It will also help them with Scope 3 carbon emissions reporting, as well as support them to set, monitor and achieve business travel and mobility sustainability goals.
