Placement Study: The Half Way Mark

Placement Study: The Half Way Mark
10th January 2019

It has been six months since I started my placement year at SilverDoor – which means I am officially halfway through my time here at the company. It’s crazy how fast the time has gone, so I thought I would take a minute to fill you in with what I have been getting up to recently.

Since we last spoke I have been keeping busy with a whole variety of tasks that are allowing me to expand and improve my skill set. One of the main reasons I decided to do a placement year was that I wanted to gain as much experience as I possibly could, and there is no doubt that this is what I have done so far during my time at SilverDoor.

In recent months, I have also been given the responsibility of running SilverDoor’s Pinterest page, this has allowed me to work on a new social media platform that I have not experienced before. I can link the work I do on SilverDoor’s Instagram page to this and learn the benefits of how social media platforms interact with each other. Furthermore, I am now in charge of the internal bi-weekly content update – meaning that I’m responsible for letting the whole company know what the Marketing team have been getting up to.

During the run-up to Christmas, things started to get really busy with the distribution of the company’s Christmas cards and calendars. I was tasked with organising address labels and, after the cards arrived, the rest of the team helped to package them up so we could send them all across the globe in time for Christmas. From organising the photo shoot to sourcing the outfits, the experience of creating the card was so enjoyable and seeing the end result has been particularly fulfilling!

The one thing that has truly stood out to me during my placement study is how sociable SilverDoor is.  As a company, there is something for everyone to get involved with, whether it’s playing football after work or attending one of the many familiarisation trips with our property partners. The biggest two social events I have had the opportunity to get involved with so far during my placement are the SilverDoor Conference and the Christmas Party.

The SilverDoor Conference takes place every other year and I’m so grateful that I got the opportunity to experience it last summer. The whole company were invited to go out to Portugal for a weekend so we could get to know everyone and meet people in different offices. I got to spend time with the placement students in the Lancaster office that I don’t often get to see and other people in different departments. The weekend flew by and, before I knew it, it was time to leave. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience and I can guarantee that no other placement scheme will give you this opportunity.

The next big social event in the calendar was the SilverDoor Christmas Party. For this year’s annual party we took to the skies at Altitude Skyloft. The venue had breath-taking views across the city and it was the perfect backdrop to an amazing night. It was great to see everyone dressed up and celebrating the great year that the company had. It was also great to experience the SilverDoorian of the Year Award where everyone celebrated each other’s successes. The night was danced away and it was a truly remarkable evening.

The last six months have been so much fun and I have loved every minute of being a SilverDoorian. I can’t wait to see what my final six months have in store for me.
