Liverpool Street is teeming with finance companies that have become synonymous with this historic part of London. Running along the border of the City, Liverpool Street has become a centre for business in London as well as a hot spot of restaurants and bars for City workers to take the edge of a hectic day in this fast paced business district.

Businesses in the area

As one of the UK’s primary business districts, notable banks including RBS, Deutsche Bank and Halifax are headquartered in the area.

Tower 42, the Gherkin and the Salesforce Tower are also in close proximity to Liverpool Street and are home to a number of multinational companies.

Tenants of Tower 42 include Samsung, Hong Kong Airlines, the European Banking Authority and Boston Technologies.

The Gherkin, or 30 St Mary’s Axe as its officially known, is home to Standard Life, Super Derivatives, Regus and Coleman Bennett International Consultancy PLC.

The Salesforce Tower, originally named the NatWest Tower, has had so many rebrands it’s hard to keep track (110 Bishopsgate, Heron Tower). Current occupants include law firm McDermott Will & Emery.

Transport

Inside Liverpool Street Station

Liverpool Street is served by a robust network of tubes, trains and buses. The Hammersmith and City, Metropolitan and Central lines all run through Liverpool Street Station and can take you to all corners of London. Liverpool Street train station offers links to Essex, Cambridgeshire and London Stansted airport.

The City also has its own airport, London City Airport, for domestic, European and New York flights. It takes just twenty minutes to get to the London City Airport station from Bank station on the DLR, so approximately forty minutes if you’re starting your journey in Liverpool Street.

Places to take clients

You’ll never be short of impressive bars and restaurants to take clients in Liverpool Street. Devonshire Terrace provides British brasserie style food and a premium drinks menu with views of the Gherkin through the high glass ceiling and from the terrace area.

A destination for any lovers of sushi – or cocktails! – is SUSHISAMBA in Heron Tower. The restaurant offers spectacular views of the City and truly excellent food. If you’re looking for somewhere for breakfast, take the lift to the floor above and you’ll find Duck and Waffle the perfect setting for a morning business meeting.

Leisure

Thanks to neighbouring hipster hangout Shoreditch, there’s lots of places to go near Liverpool Street to let your hair down in your spare time. Shoreditch High Street is a lively area with pubs, bars and live music venues.

If you’re looking for somewhere a little closer, Dirty Martini is a cocktail bar situated across the road from Liverpool Street Station – dust of your dancing shoes and enjoy happy hour in this busy, City bar.

For somewhere to spend a lazy Sunday, try the Old Spitalfields Market which is just a five minute walk from Liverpool Street. Londoners come here from all over the city to add to their wardrobes, deck out their home or find unique gifts. Stop by the Hummingbird bakery in Spitalfields to pick up one of their famous cupcakes, whoopee pies or a slice of rainbow cake.
