Smithfield Market is steeped in history, having been situated on the current site for over 800 years. The market is enclosed in a Grade II listed Victorian building, built in the 1800s. It’s famous for selling meat to inner-city butchers, shops and restaurants.
Transport
Farringdon benefits from an overground station that provides access to the Thameslink. The service covers sixty – eight different stations and is currently under construction to extend the service to one hundred more by 2018. From Farringdon you can catch the Thameslink to Bedford, Brighton, St Albans, Luton, Sevenoaks and Sutton.
Farringdon tube station was London’s first underground station and is currently served by the Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City and Circle lines and is situated between Barbican and King’s Cross St. Pancras stations.
The bus offers a great way to see more of London as you are travelling between meetings. From Farringdon the 55 bus goes towards Leyton or to Oxford Circus, the 63 goes to Honor Oak or King’s Cross and the 24 hours a day service, the 243, goes to Waterloo or Wood Green.

Places to take clients
If you’re looking for a meeting room, HeadRooms is a company that rents out its premises and is located five minutes’ walk from Farringdon station. There’s a choice of four different meeting rooms, each with a distinct feel. They offer rooms by the hour or the day and include stationery, food and drink, and tech accessories for your meeting.
A popular location for client lunches is Portal restaurant and bar. With its spacious interior and impressive architecture, the Portuguese cuisine has been acclaimed by critics and diners alike. The restaurant also has the option to rent out the bar and can accommodate up to 80 people.
For a more informal meeting, the oldest pub in London, Ye Olde Mitre Inn offers a cosy atmosphere with a very British charm. Located down a cobbled alley, the pub has changed very little in the last 200 years. Bear in mind that this pub is closed on weekends and bank holidays.
Leisure
One of the most popular places in Farringdon to relax and unwind with a cup of coffee is the Department of Coffee and Social Affairs. It’s located near Leather Lane Market and is a minimalist, blacked out building. Often quoted as the local ‘hipster’ coffee bar it serves some of the best coffee in London and is definitely worth stopping by, even if just for that early morning pick me up.
If you don’t fancy the local markets for food, then there’s no shortage of places to grab a quick bite or to take your time over a relaxed evening meal. The Real Man Pizza Company is an authentic family owned Italian restaurant on the corner of Clerkenwell Road and Leather Lane Apartments. It serves up fresh food and has a range of salads, pasta and pizzas.
After a busy day’s work Farringdon has a number of pubs and bars to suit all tastes. The Jerusalem Tavern, located on Britton Street, is an 1800s styled pub with character and an extensive selection of beers and ales. For a more modern atmosphere, The City Pride is an open plan pub with two separate areas. The City Pride has a selection of modern-classic beers and is a short distance away from Farringdon station.
