A culinary tour of the UK
19th May 2014

The UK is a honeypot of delicious dishes, bursting with traditional treats and top quality restaurants. We’re going to give you a tour of the taste buds from the north, south, east and west. British food may not be world-renowned, but this list speaks volumes of what the UK has to offer:

1. Meat fruit

You can be overwhelmed with choice for restaurants in London and it’s hard to pick just one. But Dinner by Heston Blumenthal is a cut above the rest, ranking 5th in the World’s best restaurants by Restaurant Magazine. ‘Meat fruit’ is a 16th century inspired dish of mandarin, chicken liver and foie gras parfait, their signature serving you must try.

2. Fish and Chips

Britain is famous for The Beatles, Big Ben and fish and chips. The 150 year-old staple is part of our tradition and the best ‘proper’ fish and chips are sold at Quayside. The triumphant takeaway is situated in the famous port of Whitby in North Yorkshire and is the winner of the National Fish and Chips Awards 2014.

3. Duck Sunday lunch

Pubs are mainstays in British heritage and the Hand & Flowers envisioned by Tom Kerridge is no exception. Being the first pub to receive two Michelin stars, the Hand & Flowers has thrived on industry acclaim from up and down the country. Don’t snub pub grub and head to Buckinghamshire to try the Duck Sunday lunch (it’s to die for).

4. Fresh produce

Scottish food is famed for freshness and The Isle of Skye Restaurant in the Inner Hebrides couldn’t be fresher. Marcelo Tully crafts his menu on the local produce available from the rich pantries of the surrounding landscape. The tasting menu is a showcase of Scottish excellence.

5. Heart meals

The South-West offers top dining experiences from coastal seafood splendours to rural hearty meals. Michael Caines MBE has brought every taste of the West Country to ABode Exeter where his career originally started.

All of these locations are accessible from a serviced apartment base. Explore the vast reaches of the British Isles with our portfolio of UK serviced apartments and take your own culinary tour.
