Chelsea is home to some of the most affluent and wealthy Londoners and with a range of restaurants and designer shops to cater for the locals, it’s a great place to stay when visiting London.

Chelsea Area Guide

Now one of the most desirable areas in London, Chelsea was once just a humble rural village on the outskirts of the metropolis of London. The area was attractive to Londoners looking for a weekend getaway, and in the 19th century the area began to be incorporated into central London with many famous artists, including Turner and Sargent, taking up residence in Chelsea. As centre of the swinging 60s movement, Chelsea was placed firmly on the map as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones frequented the clubs and bars of the King’s Road.

Today, Chelsea is home to some of the most affluent and wealthy Londoners and with a range of restaurants and designer shops to cater for the locals, it’s a great place to stay when visiting London.

Businesses in the area

Chelsea is predominantly a residential area with a number of bars, restaurants and designer shops.

Clustered around Sloane Square, Sloane Street and the King’s Road you can find some of the biggest names in fashion including Prada, Louis Vuitton, Roberto Cavalli and Dolce and Gabbana. The famous Peter Jones department store is located on Sloane Square with amazing views across Chelsea from their top floor restaurant.

Transport

If you’re staying in Chelsea, but working in the City, there are a number of tube stations operating in the area on different lines of the underground. Stations include South Kensington, Gloucester Road, Sloane Square, Earl’s Court and Imperial Wharf overground.

The number 11 bus takes you from Chelsea into the heart of the City – with some amazing views en route.

Places to take clients

The Bluebird restaurant has become iconic in Chelsea and is sure to impress clients whether your meeting takes place over eggs Benedict at breakfast or roasted barbary duck at lunch. In the summer, the courtyard is a suntrap and the perfect place to while an afternoon away.

The Phene is a pub with a relaxed, but luxurious atmosphere with a saloon bar, conservatory restaurant, first floor lounge and, as we’re going into spring, why not enjoy the beautiful Phene garden?

Leisure

The Saatchi Gallery just off the King’s Road houses innovative, contemporary art from largely unknown artists. The collection has grown steadily and now offers exciting and colourful exhibitions for art lovers.

The Royal Hospital Chelsea is a famous institution the world over and provides a home for veterans in the later stages of their life; the residents are known as the Chelsea Pensioners. The magnificent building they reside in was designed by Christopher Wren over 300 years ago. Set in over 66 acres of land in the heart of Chelsea, the gardens and building are open to the public to explore.

Chelsea is home to premier league football club, Chelsea F.C. If you get the chance try and catch a game at Stamford Bridge stadium or of this world famous club.

There’s no shortage of nightlife in Chelsea, try Cuban bar Embargo Republica for great cocktails, live bands and DJs throughout the week.

As we mentioned before, Londoners come from across the capital to shop on the King’s Road. Start at Sloane Square and work your way up.
