Due to Munich's proximity to the Alps, the summer months are warm, dry and breezy – ideal for sightseeing and cycling. Corporate travellers visiting Munich would be advised to pack a few layers so you have the option of wearing a jacket on cooler nights.

The currency in Munich is the Euro. Although there has been an increase in cashless payments, Munich still very much involves a combination of cash and card so as a corporate traveller it’s best to have both. Typically, major chains, like supermarkets, will accept card whereas some smaller, local shops will solely take cash.

Never fear however, as ATMs are easily accessible! If you are planning on attending Oktoberfest, it's a must to withdraw some money beforehand as whilst there are ATMs on site, they can have hefty withdrawal charges!

While tipping isn't mandatory, a standard tip would be 10% in restaurants for good service.

When you're not cooking dinner in your Munich serviced apartment, it’s a must to try some Bavarian cuisine best enjoyed from a local 'Wirtshaus' restaurant.

Perhaps the most renowned dish is the 'Weisswurst', or 'white sausage'. This traditional local food is enjoyed before midday and best enjoyed with sweet mustard, white beer, and another quintessential cuisine…. soft pretzels. Just remember to remove the chewy skin of the sausage before eating!

We'd be remiss to talk about Munich's cuisine without mentioning its perennial partner in crime, beer. There are many brewhouses to visit, especially 'Hofbräuhaus am Platzl', a favourite of locals. Be prepared to share tables with other punters, and expect to pay a refundable 'pfand' (deposit) at some bars in exchange for returning your glasses.

Transport in City - Getting Around Munich, Germany
Transport icon

Munich has a reputation of being a safe area with most people opting to explore on foot when possible – just remember not to jaywalk as it's illegal and heavily frowned upon!

Cycling is very popular in Munich and can be navigated via a system of bike lanes throughout the city. Download your Munich cycle lane map for free online - just remember to stay out of the bike lanes when on foot because cyclists tend to travel pretty fast.

Munich's public transport is best explored through the 'MVV' website where you can access maps and timetables of the overground (S-Bahn) and underground (U-Bahn) trains, trams and buses. You can buy all tickets online or in stations - if you know you’ll be making multiple trips in one day, it can be more cost effective to buy a day ticket which works across all different MVV modes of transport.

Note that some tickets need to be validated by stamping them in blue boxes either on the train or at the station before you travel. Rather than relying on station barriers to check valid tickets like transport networks in other countries, Munich transport officers conduct spot-checks on the trains, so make sure you validate your ticket for every journey.
