What is the most interesting city you have flown to so far?
I would say Nairobi in Kenya. It’s such a welcoming country and the atmosphere really lifts your spirit, especially after an eight and a half hour flight. The weather is amazing and you get to see loads of wild animals.
You’re now used to packing light - what essentials do you always make sure you pack?
I always make sure I take my iPad when I go away. It’s a great way to keep in touch with my family and friends back home as most of the places we stay in have Wi-Fi access. When we stop in hot countries it’s great to sunbathe so I always take sun cream. Finally, conditioner. It’s always easy to find shampoo but never conditioner!
Today there are many budget airlines offering cheap flights across Europe, such as easyJet. Why should business travellers choose BA over these?
Firstly you don’t have to pay for any add-ons such as luggage. Secondly, all the food and drink is free so you can eat and drink to your heart’s content! Thirdly, BA training is sought-after within the industry so their crew are fully trained to deal with any situation. Finally, the seat pitch (the distance from the back of your seat cushion to the back of the seat in front of you) is 2.5 inches greater than the pitch of an easyJet plane - more leg room is always a plus.
Is it possible to charm your way to a free upgrade or is it just a myth?
It’s a myth! You’ll only ever be upgraded if the flight is over-booked and there are seats free in higher classes - fluttering your eyelashes won’t work I’m afraid. Upgrades are still available of course by using your air miles (Avios).
Which are the best seats on the plane?
First class and business class seats are the best on the plane, but that would be stating the obvious. If you’re flying economy the best place to sit is at the front of the plane - you get more leg room as the seats are by an emergency exit door. Being at the front also means you get your food first so you get first choice.
Who is the most famous person you have served? Were they nice?
Thierry Henry. And yes, he was lovely!
Who has been your most annoying passenger so far? What did they do?
So far I’ve been quite lucky with my passengers. If there's one comment I'd make about passengers it's that they often complain about turbulence - there's nothing we can do about it! However, I’m sure I used to be the same when I was a passenger.
What is the best bit about your job?
Since becoming a flight attendant I have been able to see so many places that I never would’ve imagined I would see. The world is full of amazing things and I’m lucky that my job enables me to experience them.
